ACL Injury Prevention Program

Anyone who has torn their ACL in the past will tell you that it is physically and psychologically debilitating and that it takes an enormous amount of time to get back to your prior level of function. Here are some not so fun facts about ACL injuries:

  • There are up to 200,000 ACL injuries in the U.S. alone
  • Despite surgical repair, approximately 79% develop knee osteoarthritis and 20% suffer reinjury within 2 years
  • 80% of ACL injuries are non-contact injuries (absent of an external force or impact)
  • Female athletes are at 6 times greater risk than their male counterparts

We, physical therapists at Specialized Physical Therapy Solutions, have created a program to help athletes and sports enthusiasts of all ages decrease their chance of injuring or reinjuring their ACL. There is strong evidence demonstrating that an ACL injury prevention program can reduce risk of ACL injuries in all types of athletes by 50% as well as reduce risk by 67% for non-contact ACL injuries in females. Our primary goal for developing this program is to prevent ACL injuries from occurring while improving sports performance and output. We will be doing this by:

  • Identifying potential risk factors for injury during exercise or physical activity including strength, flexibility, and movement mechanic deficits
  • Develop a unique individualized plan to address these risk factors and help you perform better in your sport
  • Re-evaluate progress made throughout visits
  • Modify the program based on progress made

So what are you waiting for? Come on in and have one of our Doctors of Physical Therapy evaluate you to get your started on your very own unique program!
